John J. Davis Near-Death Experience

orientation building

Orientation Center

I was having surgery to repair the tendons in my hand when I had a severe allergic reaction to the anesthesia and died. The minute that I died, I opened my eyes, and I was standing in the most beautiful building I had ever seen.

The building was in the shape of a very long corridor, and there were beautiful white marble columns, maybe thirty feet high, on the right-hand side all the way down as far as you could see. The columns were about five feet apart, and in the middle of this building, there were white marble tables with marble benches, and the tables repeated down the corridor. On the left side were tunnels about seven or eight feet high, and they looked like they were carved out of the solid white marble.

In my left ear, I heard a voice say, “My name is Allen. I’m your spirit guide.” I realized that every one of us has a spirit guide when we come into a lifetime, and their job is to help us plan our lives—what we want to accomplish, what we want to learn, what we want to grow from. And our guide is with us throughout our lives.

As this whole thing unfolded for me, my guide Allen was explaining to me what I was seeing and where I was. Every time he took me someplace different, he took me to the outside of each building first, and then he took me inside. He told me when somebody passes and they go into the white light, they end up in the Orientation Center where I was standing.

There were two people at each of the tables, and my guide explained to me that these people were orientation counselors. What they do is help people orientate back from a lifetime over to the other side. The reason the counselors are there is very few of us remember where we are from. The other side—or heaven, or the afterlife, or whatever people like to call it—that’s home. That’s where we are from.

When I looked into the tunnels, off to the left, it was like looking into space. They were totally black, but they were absolutely beautiful. My guide explained that these tunnels are what connect people from their earth life to the other side. Then he told me to look at the next tunnel in front of me. There was a man coming through who was an elderly gentleman, probably in his 80s or 90s, and he had his right hand over his chest like he was in pain. My guide said that he had died from a heart attack, and he was coming through the tunnel into the Orientation Center.

The orientation counselor who was closest to him stood up and walked over to him. She took his hands in hers and led him back to the table, where they sat down. She sat across from him and was holding his hands the whole time. I was too far away to hear what she was saying, but my guide told me that she was basically orientating him back to the other side, saying, you just came back from a lifetime, you finished your life, and you’re back on the other side.

My guide told me to watch the man, and all of a sudden the man began to change. He changed from an elderly gentleman into a man in his late twenties or early thirties. My guide told me that everyone on the other side is in their early thirties. I don’t know why that is—I didn’t think to ask—but everyone is young on the other side.

The English Gardens

As the counselor woman finished talking to the man, he had changed back to his normal appearance on the other side. He had remembered everything about the other side—where he was from. He stood up and walked off to the right and down three marble steps between the columns into what I call The Gardens. I don’t know if that is what they call them over there, but they looked like an English manicured garden. Absolutely, breathtakingly beautiful. I remember the grass was so green. I’ve never seen grass that looked like that—it was emerald green. And all the flowers and the trees and the plants they had in these gardens were absolutely gorgeous.

Well, it turns out that after you have your orientation and you’re finished talking to the orientation counselor, you walk into these gardens. That’s where you have what is called The Reunion. All of the people this man had known in his lifetime who had passed—friends, family, acquaintances—were all there waiting for him. They were clapping and applauding, hugging him and telling him that he did a good job.

My guide told me that the reason we have these reunions is it’s a really big deal to have a lifetime on Earth because it’s so hard here. This is the hardest place of all the other planets that we can have lifetimes on. There are many, many souls who don’t want to come here because it is so hard. When you finish a lifetime here on Earth, it’s a big deal. That’s why all these people are there to greet you.

I learned that everybody you lost in your lifetime is not really gone. They are just in a different place, and they are all going to be there when your time comes—when you finish your lifetime and go back to where you are from.
